Virginia's only iSmash opened in Sterling in August. We booked the glow-paint room, walked out covered in neon, and heard the rage rooms the whole way to the door.
October in Loudoun has a formula: a farm, a hayride, a pumpkin the size of a toddler. We love the formula. But if your family has done the corn maze twice this month, iSmash is your plot twist.
It opened on 15 August at Parc City Center off Route 7, the only iSmash in Virginia. The chain started in Rochester, New York, in 2018 and planned about 40 new locations across the country for 2026. Two rooms make it work. One lets you break things. The other lets you paint everything, including each other. Book the second one first.
Splatter Paint: book this
You step into a dark room in clothes you don't mind ruining, and the black lights come on. Then you throw glowing paint at the walls, the floor, the ceiling if your arm is good enough, and at anyone in range. There's no technique, no wrong answer, and nobody telling you to be careful with the paint.
They hand you a Bluetooth speaker at the door, so get your playlist ready before you arrive. A room full of glow paint and your family's favorite song is about as good as twenty minutes gets. Every person also splatters a canvas to take home, so the mess ends up on the fridge instead of the sofa. Kids will absolutely love this. Ages 3 and up.
The top packages include a video of your session, emailed afterwards. If your package doesn't include one, you can add one for $10. Get it. You'll watch it more than you think.
The rage rooms: next time
When our music stopped, we could hear the rage rooms down the hall. Glass shattering, printers meeting their end, the occasional very satisfied cheer. We didn't see any of it, but it sounded fantastic. Next visit, we're booking one.
Rage rooms are for ages 8 and up. You pick up a bat and work through glassware and old electronics, with a car windshield or a powder bomb in the bigger packages. You can also bring your own box of things to break. That printer that jammed every morning last year has been waiting for this.
Birthdays
Party packages come with private party space. For the kid who has done every trampoline park in the county twice, this is the party they'll actually talk about at school. Tuesday to Thursday parties are 25% off with the code WEEKDAYPARTY, so check before you default to Saturday.
The people
Aaron looked after us, and he went out of his way for the smallest member of our crew without being asked. That's the kind of thing a parent remembers long after the paint washes off. The team handles all the cleanup too, which, after twenty minutes of glow paint, is a gift.
Our verdict
Splatter Paint is the best new rainy-day plan in Loudoun, and a strong sunny-day one too. Go with kids 3 and up, a good playlist and low expectations for your sneakers. Save the rage room for when the kids are 8, or for a parents' night out.
